The Durham Assessment Centre has been offering Care Awards since 1991 and has established a sound infrastructure from which to offer NVQs, with a proven track record of success.
Candidates, at all levels and specialisms, are supported through their NVQ programme by written support materials and a network of work-based assessors and internal verifiers, who are in turn supported through regular meetings and standardisation groups.
All of the Care programmes offered begin with an introduction day; this addresses NVQ basics including: explaining assessment, types of evidence, work activities, evidence gathering methods and building a portfolio.
The number of units that need to be attained for a Health and Social Care Full Award is dependent on the level of the programme undertaken:
Level 2 = 6 Units
Level 3 = 8 Units
Level 4 = 8 Units
Candidate support is on-going for the full length of the programme through a dedicated NVQ Co-ordinator. The NVQ Co-ordinator is allocated by either specialist area or organisation. The Durham Assessment Centre team believe in flexible training and try as far as possible to offer support in the most useful way, by either large or medium formal training sessions, or by small or one-to-one sessions.
